FEATURES

10  James Renny's Wild Scotland

James Renny's meticulously detailed paintings capture the essence of Scotland's flora and fauna and have made him one of the world's leading wildlife artists.  Angus Urquhart met the artist at his home in Perthshire.

18  The Landscape of Scotland

Samson Lloyd, one of Britain's top professional photographers, has had a life-long love affair with the Scottish Highlands.  It's an infatuation he shares in each of the beautiful images in his latest book, The Landscape of Scotland.  In London he spoke with Iain Gunn.

28  Inside the Palace of Holyroodhouse

Catriona Stuart continues her tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse with a visit to the magnificent public rooms in the Queen's official residence in Scotland.

36  Glendalough

SCOTS Archaeology correspondent Georgia Stannard continues her search for Scotland's Celtic connections in Ireland with a visit to the remote and beautiful Medieval city of Glendalough.

48   The MacDonalds of Glencoe

The MacDonalds of Glencoe have regained title to at least part of their ancient ancestral lands.  The historic purchase was made by Alistair MacDonald, a crofter who is now urging clansfolk throughout the world to join him in supporting the Glencoe Heritage Trust.

52  The Souters of Selkirk

Sir David and Lady Steel conclude our tour of the Scottish Borders with a visit to Selkirk.

62  Puffins

Although the Puffin is one of the most numerous of all Scotland's seabirds it remains vulnerable to sudden unexplained changes in ocean currents which sometimes severely disrupt the food chain. Fiona MacGillivray reports from Sumburgh Head on the southern tip of Shetland where RSPB ornithologist Pete Ellis is monitoring the Puffin's progress.

78  Pluscarden Abbey

Pluscarden Abbey is the only Medieval monastic building still in use in Scotland.  Its survival is a tribute to the dedication of the Benedictine monks whose silence and selfless devotion has created an atmosphere of spiritual enlightenment which attracts pilgrims from around the world.  Text by Iain Gunn.  Photography by Eric Ellington.

84   Fine Feathered Friends

Andrew MacLeod is a falconer who has earned the trust and the loyalty of some of Scotland's biggest birds of prey.  On the Skibo Estate in Sutherland he showed Donald Cameron how the birds' instincts are harnessed in the hunt for wild game.
